Frequently Asked Questions
How is Jiu Jitsu different from Karate and Taekwondo?
While Karate and Taekwondo focus primarily on striking (punches and kicks), Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art that emphasizes ground fighting, submissions, and leverage over strength. This makes it incredibly effective for self-defense and builds problem-solving skills as children learn to think their way out of challenging positions.
What should my child wear to their first class?
Just comfortable athletic clothes that they can move freely in—shorts and a t-shirt work perfectly. We’ll provide everything else they need for their trial class. No special equipment required to get started!
Is Jiu Jitsu safe for young children?
Absolutely! Our kids program emphasizes controlled movements, proper technique, and safety above all else. With Coach Tina’s child development background and our multiple instructor approach, we maintain a safe, supervised environment where children learn at their own pace.
How often should my child attend classes?
We recommend 2–3 classes per week for optimal development. This frequency allows children to build upon what they’ve learned while maintaining the muscle memory and progression that makes Jiu Jitsu so effective.
Will my child learn to be aggressive or violent?
Not at all. Jiu Jitsu actually teaches the opposite—control, discipline, and when NOT to use their skills. Our core values of respect, integrity, and teamwork ensure that children understand martial arts as a tool for self-improvement and protection, never aggression.
What if my child is shy or lacks confidence?
Perfect! That’s exactly why many parents bring their children to us. Jiu Jitsu naturally builds confidence through small victories and personal achievement. Coach Tina specializes in working with shy children and creating an environment where they feel safe to grow at their own pace.
